Background

Dorothy Booth has been drawing and painting animals for over thirty years. She works in both chalk pastel and oil paint.

Educated in both Fine Art and Graphic Design she has had many years of art training.

Dogs have always been an important part of her life! From working on the team for “Dogs in Canada” magazine to her present day dog portraiture studio.

Chalk Pastel or Oil

All pastel portraits are done nearly life-size on an acid-free high quality paper, 20 X 24 inches in size. These can include a sky background if desired. Framing is not included. Time of completion is based on a first-come basis, but usually can be done within a two week period. Please indicate if the painting is required sooner.

Oil paintings, (include sky backgrounds), are available in many sizes, the canvas has a thick stretcher, “gallery” style, which enables the painting to be hung without a frame, if desired. Please allow at least four weeks for an oil painting from start to finish.

Prices

Chalk pastel portraits, are $300. plus tax.

Oil paintings will vary according to size. They start at $500. plus tax for a 12 X 12 size canvas.

Shipping is done through Canada Post and is very reasonable.

Please call to discuss the size you are interested in.

How to begin

Although it is preferred for the artist to actually meet the dog and photograph it herself, this is not always possible. Living in the Niagara Region of Ontario she is happy to come to you if within a 50 km. radius.

If this is not possible she is quite able to work from your images!

It is best to photograph your dog outside, early in the morning or later in the day, preferably on an overcast day. This will prevent half closed eyes or hard shadows across the face. The sharper and closer the photo, the better the results!

Working from your detailed photographs or clear email images, she is able to capture your dogs personality!

This site will be updated with new portraits regularly.
